Martin Dwyer is a Director of Draig Personnel and we took this opportunity to ask him a few questions about himself.
- How did you get your current job?
I came into contact with Draig Personnel when I was in a management role at the GE Consumer Finance call centre, as they were our preferred supplier of temporary and permanent labour. My career then diversified into a role within GE Capital Finance, however, when I became aware of an opportunity to join the team at Draig, I applied for role immediately. My application was successful and I joined the business on October 1st 2004 in the role of Recruitment Consultant. On February 1st 2008 I was named as a Director of Draig Personnel - this was my proudest moment of my career to date.
- Describe your ideal job.
I would have liked to have been a footballer but that was never going to happen! My ideal job would be one where I get to meet new people everyday, work in a busy vibrant atmosphere, one where hard work and loyalty is rewarded and offers me security - all of which I have found with Draig Personnel; so I guess I am in my ideal job.
- What motivates you?
I am motivated by being constantly challenged, working in a fast paced environment, obtaining feedback whether good or bad as long as it is constructive. I am also motivated by helping others achieve their potential within our business.
- Who do you most respect in business and why?
Alan Sugar because he is a self-made man who is constantly seeking new opportunities and adapting to new challenges in his business empire.
- What are the most important qualities for people joining your business?
The ability to work under pressure and to enjoy a challenging environment. In addition to this people need to possess excellent communication skills and high levels of enthusiasm and professionalism at all times.
- How do you relax?
I have a wonderful wife and a great group of friends. I am a very sociable person and enjoy going for meals as well as being a frequent visitor to the cinema and I enjoy playing and watching football (season ticket holder at Cardiff City FC).
- What infuriates you?
People letting me down and DIY as I am not very good at DIY!
- Who would you most like to have dinner with?
Peter Kay as I think he is very witty and he would be good company, especially after a few beers!
- Favourite food?
Italian.
- What's the most romantic thing you have ever done?
Proposing to my wife whilst on a skiing holiday, she wasn't expecting it at all but thankfully said yes!
- Most embarrasing business moment?
On last year's Children in Need Day, I was visiting in one of our clients (which happened to be an 800 seat call centre) but un beknown to me, Ross (MD at Draig) had been in conversation with the client prior to my visit. Basically he had agreed to make a £250 donation to the charity as long as they dressed me in ladies pyjamas and applied makeup before parading me around the entire call centre! I'll be seeking revenge that's all I'll say on the matter!
- What car do you drive?
BMW.
- Best advice you've ever been given?
If your going to do something always give it 100%.
- What three words best describe your character?
Funny, loyal & dependable.
